PNL to vote in the Niculescu government, then go into opposition – all Liberal officials to resign
At its Saturday session, the National Liberal Party's (PNL) National Political Bureau decided that the party will vote to approve the inauguration of the government led by Luca Niculescu, but will then move into opposition. After the decision, party leader and acting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced that all state officials supported by the PNL will submit their resignations, and that the Liberals will reach a kind of “truce agreement” with the designated prime minister, valid until the adoption of the 2027 budget.
On Friday, Bolojan told Digi24 that the PSD also represents the main threat to the Niculescu government, and said of the proposed PSD ministers that “these are the human resources the PSD has,” adding that he does not believe the wolf will shed its nature. The decision was not unanimous: the PNL organization in Iași unanimously decided not to support the government. The USR's Political Bureau unanimously decided on Friday to reject the inauguration. According to party leader Dominic Fritz, a government that relies on a “toxic majority” formed with AUR and is run from the PSD's headquarters cannot win their support.
