Dear Ukrainian brothers and sisters! Please forgive us, the Hungarians!

Dear brothers, dear neighbors — dear and beloved Ukrainian people! Of course, I cannot speak in the name of the entire Hungarian nation, nor is that my purpose; what is indeed among my purposes, however, is that the Russian occupiers should leave Ukraine, that you may all live in peace, and that Moscow should be held accountable and pay compensation to Ukraine.

As you can see, my goals — though spoken as a Hungarian — differ little from your own. And yes, I wish you were already members of the European Union and NATO; if it had depended on me, it would have happened long ago.

But it does not depend on me. And sadly, it also does not depend on me that my homeland is being driven to the deepest moral abyss by a prime minister servile to Moscow, a man whose mentality is steeped in submission to the Kremlin.

I know I am not alone as a Hungarian who thinks this way — that is why we launched the UGAR Info page, at first just as a garage project: so that something might rise up against the disinformation which, in other EU countries, is spread only by shabby Putinists, but here in Hungary has been raging for fifteen long years as an information war waged by our own government against its people.

I am deeply saddened and feel helpless, because I do not know how to ensure that the rightful anger of Ukrainians will not strike down upon ordinary Hungarian people. I know that the vast majority of the Ukrainian people do distinguish between the government and ordinary citizens — but still, I felt it important to tell you: not all Hungarians are the same as our leaders, and there are not so few of us who reject them!

True, we are not yet enough to bring them to justice and send them to the deepest prison cells — those who lend a helping hand in committing war crimes, who support the killing of Ukrainian children with Hungarian oil-forints, who ceaselessly boast and provoke, those puppets of Putin, first and foremost Viktor Orbán.

But soon we shall be enough. Soon we will sweep them away, expose their secret dealings, tear off their masks — and then, perhaps, both our peoples will live happily side by side, with our greatest problem being only whether borscht or goulash tastes better.

So, dear Ukrainian brothers and sisters: forgive us, and do not place every Hungarian under the same hat as this man called Viktor Orbán. That is all I wanted to say — but in saying this, I believe I have said everything.

Slava Ukraini! Ruszkik haza!
