RMDSZ lawmakers are campaigning to elementary school students, right in the classroom!

Do you still remember, dear old children, dear eternal children, when the portrait of Nicolae and Elena Ceaușescu and the list of their titles greeted us on the first page of every textbook, and at the start of every school year we thanked the Party for our textbooks — even when Romania had grown so poor that all we could thank the Party for were the textbooks that didn't exist?

All of this has already happened before with the Hungarian-language textbooks of modern-day Romania, and it's happening again today — right now it's the turn of the D.A.H.R.Nicolae and ElenaD.A.H.R. chapter.

From the previous episode

It's worth remembering that back in the 2010s we already went through the D.A.H.R.no textbooksD.A.H.R. chapter. Owing to some minor rule change and some enormous negligence, Hungarian students and teachers had no textbooks for years on end. Around 2018, the Civic Involvement Movement from Târgu Mureș had to fight its way through hostile RMDSZ officials at the ministry so that Hungarian students and teachers in Romania could have textbooks again.

Nicolae and Elena in 2026

Now, in recent days, the Mureș County branch of RMDSZ has published Facebook posts after which a wave of happy nostalgia might wash over us, since RMDSZ representatives from Mureș County are personally handing out a Romanian-exam prep workbook, prepared by the Party, to 1,513 students in Mureș County who study in Hungarian — so that the students can personally thank D.A.H.R. them for it.

And for this, they don't even need to get up from their seats — just stand at attention out of respect, when the Honorable Representatives, Ladies and Gentlemen, walk into their classroom!

This is completely illegal, but the tulip crowd can get away with anything.

Not even in Ceaușescu's time was there anything quite like this, so thank God we're progressing.

According to the photos, the D.A.H.R.Dutch are even handing out RMDSZ promotional brochures to teachers, and who else but them would be running the prep sessions as part of the RMDSZ-invented "Romanian, Playfully" program? Who else should be running it, in this leftover of a party-state system? Part of the "Romanian, Playfully" program also involves training the children in what to say "playfully in Hungarian" in RMDSZ campaign videos aimed at voters.

But the photos bear witness to something else too: while the representative instructs the students to look around themselves and find a role model in their surroundings, they themselves don't look around at all, don't see, and don't care where exactly they're standing.

  • In Luduș, for instance, the children of class VIII C have to stare all day at a gigantic Romanian flag above their blackboard. The majority leadership of the theoretically bilingual school leaves nothing to chance in making sure the Hungarian child feels, at every moment, where they stand.

  • Stepping out into the hallway, the child immediately learns that in Romania, poetry can only be in Romanian, and poets can only be Romanian.

  • The other shared spaces also reflect the majority arrogance typical of the micro-region. Not only along the roads, endlessly, but in the school library too, a forest of flags greets the child. Served up in such an unequal, spear-like fashion, it's no wonder the child perceives both the national flag and the EU flag as instruments of oppression — because that is exactly how they're used. Shut your mouth, kid, this is a European Union country, everyone here has an identity — just not you.

  • In front of the children, there's a diagram on the board in Romanian, even though it's a geography class. Are these students taught geography in Romanian too? Hmmm... We thought that in Romania, the one-million-strong Hungarian minority could study in its mother tongue from kindergarten all the way to university.

  • At the school in Pogăceaua (Búzásbesenyő), there's no sign of any pressure at all — even the school's name is Hungarian — yet headmaster Andrea Papp prints a Romanian-language timetable for every class, purely on her own initiative. But of course her "Hungarian heart" is still in the right place, since she lets RMDSZ into the classroom, doesn't she? And RMDSZ obediently photographs the timetable and shoves it in front of our eyes, because next to it that "child-friendly" "house blessing" is just so touching. For the start of the school year, the Party even treated the children to an RMDSZ-branded timetable (yes, in 2026 such a thing as an RMDSZ timetable now exists, because we're progressing!).

  • And there's even a school where a simple flag isn't enough — in some places a flagpole is also required, to show who's boss here. According to the photos, RMDSZ even boasts about this too.

Well, in that case let's go into the school ourselves too, together with our dear, good politicians, and let the dear reader see it with their own eyes — zoom in, study it:

Since the representatives already went into the school, let's at least tell them that the photos they took amount to a real workbook that someone ought to solve from start to finish. It's clear they won't be the ones to do it — but then who will?

If we look, for instance, at the staff of the EEM, they previously received a hefty sum of public money for this very topic, and yet now, faced with the Mureș County RMDSZ's campaign, they don't lift a finger — instead they keep cozying up to RMDSZ people. Here too, solving the problem requires first noticing it — the very problem that, in theory, we write our doctorates on and, in practice, use to feather our own nests — but how are we supposed to notice it if we lifted it from someone else?

But surely these schools too have already been surveyed, by means of questionnaires, by our dear, independent, anti-establishment scholars — since for some reason money they surveyed absolutely all of them — and found everything to be just fine.

Why wouldn't she go into the classroom and personally ask the children what plans they have? At least they have some. If they happen to become RMDSZ politicians one day, they won't have any either — just like the current ones don't.

The same person in Luduș. She didn't notice where she was standing:

Our "Let's Cringe, Playfully" column.

I apologize for including this:

That's exactly why no one will speak up about it, because the Hintalovon Foundation hasn't called down from Budapest to tell the progressive independents that they should speak up. After all, in Hungary children are only used for ribbon-cutting ceremonies — at least there, they don't go so far as to shoot "documentaries" with them, in which they recite their "own" "opinions" and express their gratitude toward the Party.

Generally speaking, every single RMDSZ page is about how everything belongs to them.

None of it says anything about what the plan is.

People, what is the plan?

Are we supposed to just sit quietly and wait while our numbers get cut in half again?

Patience — well, we won't even need that, because at this rate, and with this attitude, it'll be here by tomorrow morning.

In fact, by the looks of it, even the sentence above is too naive, because in reality there isn't a single Hungarian person left in Romania anymore. If there were, they wouldn't allow this!

Here's the new prime ministerial candidate

Three times is the Hungarian charm, but we're in Romania, so today Nicușor Dan comes up with an extra one: he names the prime ministerial candidate, the fourth since May 5th. There isn't a single analyst in this country who could take the newly named candidate any more seriously than any of the previous three, but we're going to act as if we're on the edge of our seats anyway — here come the…

Both quotas are roughly double those approved in 2024, when the preventive quota stood at 426 and the intervention…

New level: the Oradea RMDSZ is threatening Ugar readers

Some worrying information has reached our editorial office: the Oradea (Nagyvárad) branch of RMDSZ (the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania) has been approaching people who shared our latest article in Ugar about the church of the Premonstratensian order in Oradea. According to what we were told, the tone was threatening, and blackmail wasn't missing from their toolkit either, in case…
