Orbán’s Government Serving the Kremlin: Hungarian Propaganda Against Ukraine

Another Russian propaganda video is being circulated by media outlets tied to the Hungarian government—this time via the “Harcosok Klubja” (Warriors’ Club), a propaganda channel associated with Viktor Orbán’s circle.

The video, titled “In Memory of József Sebestyén – No More Hungarians Should Die in Other People's Wars”, is a textbook example of the Kremlin’s hybrid warfare strategy: it aims to stoke ethnic tensions in Transcarpathia and undermine solidarity with Ukraine—with the active cooperation of the Hungarian government.

The manipulated footage shows Ukrainian soldiers storming into a Hungarian family's home, abducting the father, and later killing him. But the story is built on lies: the “victim” has three children, and under current Ukrainian law, fathers of three are exempt from military service. The exaggerated, fear-mongering visuals—men dressed like special forces—do not reflect reality but are clearly designed to provoke anger and fear.

In truth, the death of József Sebestyén remains under investigation, and there is no evidence that it was ethnically motivated. Ukrainian authorities are handling the case, yet Orbán’s propaganda machine has already reached a verdict, using a man's death for political gain.

This is not an isolated case but part of a pattern: the Hungarian government is actively aiding Russia’s psychological warfare, whether by helping to circumvent EU sanctions or by manipulating public opinion. Orbán is not merely complicit—he is a willing and instrumental player in the Kremlin’s hybrid war to weaken Europe and isolate Ukraine.
