Pedophile priest arrested in Vaslui County
On Tuesday, the Orthodox Diocese of Huși suspended from service a priest from Vaslui County who was placed in pre-trial detention over the weekend on suspicion of sexual assault, rape of a minor and sexual acts with a minor. The priest of the parish of Parpanița, part of the town of Negrești, is now barred from performing any religious services. According to the police investigation, the priest sexually abused a 13-year-old in June 2026 and a 15-year-old between December 2023 and August 2026.
„The Diocese of Huși has taken note of the detention and the serious accusations, and has therefore immediately ordered a complete suspension from holy services. Depending on how the criminal proceedings develop, further ecclesiastical disciplinary measures will also be taken. The accusations are morally extremely grave and shock everyone. We fully distance ourselves from such acts, which, if confirmed, are incompatible with the priestly calling. We express our full compassion for the victims and stand in solidarity with them”
said Cosmin Gubernat, spokesperson for the diocese, to the Agerpres news agency.
The priest was known in the area for his charitable work. Over the years he had launched several aid programs for those in need, organized humanitarian collections, and set up a center for children from disadvantaged families and those at risk of dropping out of school.
