Request from Hungarians: No More Concessions to Orbán - Act Now!
Dear Prime Minister/President,
The Ugar Gesta Hungarian-language blog, founded last year, is firmly committed to countering Russian influence in Hungary and across Eastern Europe. However, we are concerned to observe that even our small-scale Hungarian resistance must at times look to you, because for some strange reason Viktor Orbán appears capable of taking not only his own country, Hungary, but also the leadership of the European Union hostage.
On several occasions, we have written to Members of the European Parliament, calling on them not to yield to Viktor Orbán’s blackmail. We must now do so again, this time addressing the participants of the European Council.
As is well known, Viktor Orbán is once again blocking support for Ukraine and the adoption of the 20th sanctions package rightfully imposed against the Russian Federation. He justifies this by claiming that the Ukrainian side has imposed an oil blockade against his government.
Not a single word of this is true. It is sufficient to note that the pipeline in question was damaged as a result of a Russian attack. Yet neither Viktor Orbán nor the Hungarian-language propaganda media, financed through corrupt means, ever mention this fact in their domestic communication.
The fire caused by the attack was brought under control by Ukrainian firefighters by February 1. Nevertheless, already on February 18, Viktor Orbán was posting that “the Ukrainians have imposed an oil blockade against Hungary.”
Let us note: even in peacetime, it would be impossible to repair a pipeline that burned for four days within such a short period.
Viktor Orbán and his government have never asked the Ukrainian government about the real situation surrounding the Druzhba pipeline, never offered assistance in the repairs, and have shown no empathy whatsoever toward the Ukrainian side.
If nothing else, these two facts alone should be sufficient to recognize that there is no “oil blockade.” Hungary’s oil supply could be secured from the direction of the Adriatic Sea, and it is entirely possible to supply Hungary with oil without relying on Russian sources.
We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that a few years ago you provided the Orbán government with one billion euros to enable steps toward diversification. Yet since 2022, Hungary has only increased its dependence on Russian gas and oil—presumably to ensure that more money flows into the Kremlin’s coffers, which in turn finance the drones and missiles killing Ukrainian children.
In light of the above, the Ugar Gesta blog calls on you not to yield to Viktor Orbán’s blackmail under any circumstances, and—if necessary—to take the strongest possible measures, including the removal of Hungary’s veto rights.
Once again: we, the staff and editors of the Ugar Gesta blog, are ethnic Hungarians and patriots—this is precisely why we are making this appeal. Otherwise, any other solution will only serve Viktor Orbán, who will ultimately remain in power in Hungary thanks to the success of his blackmail.
Given that today, March 19, 2026, marks the beginning of the European Council summit, we urge you not to miss this opportunity—when it comes to Putinists, only a firm show of strength can be an effective response.
Trusting in your strength,
The Editorial Team of Ugar Gesta
