Ukrainian pilots to begin Rafale training

Ukrainian pilots will soon begin training on French Rafale fighter jets in France, Volodymyr Zelensky announced after speaking by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron on October 5 about military support for Ukraine and the development of the Ukrainian air force. The Ukrainian president called the launch of the training a significant step forward, though a statement from the presidential office did not specify its exact timing.

The talks also touched on new French defense shipments currently being prepared, the next package of which, according to Zelensky, could arrive in Ukraine soon. Meanwhile, experts from the two countries continue working on setting up production of French missiles and aerial bombs in Ukraine, which would both support the supply of weapons and help expand local defense industry capacity. Zelensky and Macron reviewed preparations for the FREYJA program, designed to provide protection against ballistic missiles, and examined which areas of the work could be accelerated. The Ukrainian president said that preparation of the system is actively underway, with further details to be clarified during their upcoming in-person meeting.
