AUR plays it smart again

AUR's leaders will take part in Monday's consultations on forming a government at Cotroceni Palace, but do not wish to discuss government positions, support a cabinet, or propose a candidate for prime minister, Dan Dungaciu, the far-right party's first vice president, announced. According to him, they are attending the meeting to remind President Nicușor Dan that he is the president of all Romanian citizens. The list of the five-member delegation will be made public on Monday morning.

In a statement quoted by Agerpres, Dungaciu called the president's position a "declaration of war." According to him, Nicușor Dan not only rejects a government formed with AUR's participation, but would also refuse a cabinet that the party supported from outside - yet AUR has nonetheless accepted the invitation to the consultations. The party's first vice president accused the president of dividing the country and focusing solely on the interests of the group of voters who elected him, while treating the rest of society as a problem, which makes it harder to govern the country effectively. He also claimed that Nicușor Dan has lost a significant part of his own former supporters, though he did not provide any polling data to support this in the statement cited.

Dungaciu cited Joe Biden's 2021 inauguration speech as an American president as a counterexample, criticizing the fact that, in his view, Nicușor Dan has not even given a speech on the need to unite the nation. Speaking about TikTok's political role, he claimed that the president should understand why millions of Romanians are looking for answers on the social media platform. He suggested that one reason for this could be that they cannot find answers to their questions on public television or the major TV channels. He indicated that this would also be raised at Monday's meeting.
