The Feledy question is very simple:

Botond Feledy, no matter how informal the channel through which he obtained his leadership position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, must certainly have had to submit a detailed professional CV as part of the hiring procedure, just like anyone else. And that CV should have included his relevant previous assignments. If the assignment most relevant to his future job was left off that list, then it is indeed justified that he was dismissed, since it then becomes hard to assume that he acted in good faith.

If the professional CV really did not contain this item, then that's another exclamation mark showing that Mátyás Kohán doesn't like the situation that has thus arisen either.

⚠️
Botond Feledy has been fired from the helm of the Hungarian Institute of Foreign Affairs, because the supposedly top-notch Ministry of Foreign Affairs — which appointed him in August after a rigorous vetting process — has now discovered that he had some sort of working relationship "linked to the previous government."

Botond Feledy is nothing to me, neither friend nor foe. Out of 10 random statements on foreign policy, we'd probably agree on maybe four. He was never an interview subject of mine (though I did ask), I never worked with him, I only know him in passing. But NO ONE should be treated this way. If a man moves back home from Brussels with his family to serve in a serious state institution, he shouldn't be thrown away like a dishrag after three months.

In my view, despite all our disagreements, Botond Feledy is a good foreign policy expert. If the previous Hungarian government — whose foreign policy he himself publicly criticized a great deal — drew on his expertise on certain matters (and I can see issues among the relevant EU topics where Feledy's knowledge could have been valuable), that is GOOD. The previous foreign affairs leadership did the right thing by seeking ideas and advice broadly; Feledy did the right thing by helping his country. None of this makes him a less competent professional, nor less suited to lead the Institute.

It makes me shudder to think that the services carrying out national security vetting for the Hungarian foreign ministry were apparently incapable of uncovering a clearly non-classified, previous DOMESTIC working relationship. If András Rácz happened to be a Ukrainian agent, Feledy a Belgian one, and Anita Orbán a British one, would they even find that out? Or not even that? Then what are they even for?

Clowns.

UPDATE: János Lázár's hand is in this, who would have thought. He was the one who requested analyses from Feledy. Paying 103 million forints for that is a bit much, but I stand by what I wrote above: this doesn't make Feledy a worse professional — quite the opposite.)

Although I'm not familiar with that market, the hundred-million-forint fee received from the Lázár ministry strikes me as suspiciously large at first glance.

Classically — or at least anecdotally — this is how agents tend to be built up, although the method of payment could have been refined a little.

And who knows, this might also offer some explanation as to why the new Hungarian government's energy policy is so damn pro-Putin I want to stress that I do not include in this the Hungarian policy concerning the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia, given that it is fine, and I do not consider it pro-Putin either., and it also raises the question of just how long Péter Magyar might have been under Botond Feledy's influence on energy matters. Is it not possible that this was already the case even before the change of government?

Countless little games are underway, each played with wild fervor, with AUR and the RMDSZ sometimes chasing each other and sometimes waiting for the other to catch up, and by now only the ones actually playing the parts know which is the sidecar and which sits in the saddle.

The RMDSZ's prefects stay in their posts. What did Hunor give for this?

On Friday, the government decisions on the dismissal of the prefects and deputy prefects of the outgoing Bolojan government were published, and the Niculescu government filled almost all the vacated posts with PSD people. In a few Transylvanian counties, however, the big clean-out did not take place: according to a report by G4Media, RMDSZ representatives can stay.
