Permit granted: the Hungarian church in Oradea could even be demolished

If we thought this weekend would pass quietly, without another RMDSZ betrayal coming to light — not merely a betrayal of Hungarian interests but their outright trampling for the sake of selfish profit — then along came Ödön Szabó, who essentially said: hold my holy water. Because, bless my soul, the RMDSZ bigwigs prayed at the mass held in the newly renovated church named after Saint Ladislaus as if Böcskei were their one true Jesus, and lo, so it came to pass — though his crucifixion is still pending, and his resurrection on the third day is equally doubtful — but let's ride past that and head over to the Friars' Church, where the local elite were likewise busy licking each other's boots, so instead let's cut to the chase — since there's no bear to be found in Oradea, let's at least get to the fact and substance of the betrayal.

Our editorial office has obtained a document from the Direcția Județeană pentru Cultură Bihor — the Bihor county directorate subordinate to the Ministry of Culture — which reveals that the permit for the alteration of the building at 14 Roman Ciorogariu Street has been issued. This permit was needed because the church and the monastery are listed as historical monuments. In such cases a municipal permit alone is not enough; ministerial approval is also required, which, according to the document, bears the registration number C 2760/13.08.26, CZMI 05.08.26, and, as far as can be determined, became final on August 13 this year. It's pure luck it wasn't the twentieth, though perhaps they wouldn't have felt this level of disgrace anyway. In any case, let me say this now: next time, schedule the issuing of such permits for March 15, and given how Putinist we've become, October 23 would also do just fine. Thanks in advance, because apparently we couldn't care less.

At least that's what I gather from the fact that the entire Transylvanian Hungarian media — cucumber season notwithstanding — remained in perfect silence during and after this disgrace, and Hunor Kelemen still hasn't been called to account, to explain what the hell he's doing, man. After all, even Prime Minister Péter Magyar asked him to please do the job he was voted in for, but apparently grabbing Gaga Radio was a bigger priority, so that took precedence, while Zoltán Tarr was obliged to go crawling and apologize for something that neither he nor the new government had anything to do with.

Zoli, the Lord spits out the lukewarm, and no, we will not forgive you for standing by with your hands folded while the RMDSZ and the Oradea municipality tear apart the Premonstratensian church in the sacred fetish of dialogue.

Modification of internal spatial layout, facade alteration, and demolition of an outbuilding

This is what the county cultural directorate has granted permission for. Its director is Andrei Borbély, who — we don't know if he's actually András Borbély, but based on his actions he certainly isn't — and according to their website:

The permit, incidentally, means that they are free to reshape the interior spaces, even knock out a wall — but who has ever heard of a Romanian contractor not overstepping the bounds of a permit, especially when the local municipality doesn't just turn a blind eye but acts outright as an encouraging party? By the way, the facade alteration particularly interests me: after all, how exactly will they redesign the facade of a sacristy without damaging the church itself? And let me note here that the permit covers 14 Roman Ciorogariu Street, including the demolition of outbuildings. What counts as an outbuilding is defined by law in Europe — including here. The only tiny difference is that around here this law isn't worth a damn anymore, not even in the mildest sense, and there's a contractor who, with the tacit encouragement of the municipality, considers precisely the sacristy to be an outbuilding. It happens in better places too: at most they apologize a little, fine the contractor twenty euros, and the matter is forgotten, like so much else in this Paris-on-the-Pece, where instead of an Eiffel Tower, parking garages are built illegally, and instead of the saxophonists of the Latin Quarter, the jackhammer pulls the ground out from under your feet — let the wind whistle beneath you afterward.

As can clearly be seen and experienced from the above, the Bihor county RMDSZ is doing everything it can to defend the interests of the local Hungarian community: it is saving them from the inconvenience of going to church too often. Although some might consider demolishing the church a radical move, let's agree that it's effective for the purpose. One could go further, for instance, by deporting the Hungarians anywhere, just away from here, so they won't complain to us and we won't be held accountable to them — though of course our voting rights should remain, since we're needed for the seats in Bucharest — even if the ancestral Hungarians of Teleorman will simply vote them in anyway, and those don't complain nearly as much about minority issues, the main reason being that they don't exist, but then again it's easy not to complain when you're not the one suffering through the Alliance's nation-saving experiments.

We've thoroughly dissected this story on Ugar Geszta before, we've tried several times to act on the matter through our own means, but our editors rarely moonlight as senators, MPs, or local councilors — one could say the number of such cases converges strongly on zero. In any case, at the bottom of this article, among the related materials, our dear reader will find all our previous writings on the Premonstratensian affair, because, if it's Oradea, then this horde of Stalin-grafted descendants of Horthy, fiercely play-acting Hungarian, pseudo-national, tulip-waving representatives are picking up exactly where their grandfathers left off. In the absence of Jews, however, the Catholic Hungarians are next in line, the Reformed Church is bracing itself, and then the rest will follow in due order, because if we didn't speak up when they took away the Jews, now they're coming for us, and in Oradea, since 1944, that has meant more than just a poetic quotation.

This present event is a direct continuation of the fact that Abbot Anzelm Rudolf Fejes's eviction did not merely happen in the end, but the sacristy behind the church, structurally attached to it, was also sealed off from the abbot. In order to pull this off, they acted like real thieves: they came at night, broke through the wall, and then boarded up the sacristy from inside, sealing it off from the church. We can only offer congratulations on the fact that all of this is happening under a government of which the RMDSZ is also a member, even if it's technically a caretaker government. We'd like to reassure Hunor: don't worry about AUR coming to power, because they can't possibly be worse than this. Though, yes, it must be said, I could even imagine that out of their religious sentiment, they might show more respect for a church, a monastery, and its abbot. Although, staying with the dark moments of Oradea's past, the 1927 pogrom carried out by AUR's grandfathers isn't exactly the best reference either.

In any case, in the spirit of a cross-ethnic herding instinct that outdoes even the Miorița ballad, here the atheist joined forces with the Catholic bishop, the Romanian municipality with the Hungarian representative, so that only a true ungurean could tell when the lájé bukülájé was coming — Abbot Anzelm and his modest church were sacrificed like a lamb in ancient times, let's add: amid the passivity of Oradea's Hungarian public, and with this we've managed to sum up the complete and encyclopedic idiocy of the Hungarian gentry, Christian, and middle class as a whole, without straining the symbolic boundaries of this piece any further — after all, the street where the church stands used to be called Gentry Street.
